Our Story

A corner café
for the long haul.

Velvet Roast opened in 2011 on the corner of SE Morrison and 27th. We started small — two espresso machines, a secondhand counter, and a conviction that a great cup of coffee should be available to everyone in the neighborhood.

Fifteen years later, that hasn’t changed. We source directly from small farms in Oaxaca, Ethiopia, and Colombia, roast twice a week with our partner roaster in North Portland, and train every barista to pull shots properly — not quickly.

Come in and stay a while. The Wi-Fi is free, the outlets work, and nobody’s rushing you out.
